Catastrophic Finitude
System Bugs & Limitations
Failures, malfunctions, or destructive events arising from the finite nature of a system, internal flaws, or limitations. These are essentially bugs or errors in an otherwise coherent system—unintentional breakdowns of original guiding principles.
Examples:
• Software crashes due to coding bugs
• Biological aging and death from cellular limits
• Cancer: cells cheating on cooperation
• Evolutionary suicide: misadaptation
• Vacuum decay: physics reaching instability
HYPOTHETICAL
OR
Ontological Rebellion
Independent Evil Force
The emergence of a stable, novel subsystem or agent whose primary function is the willful annihilation of coherence. A true anti-coherent principle that doesn't just lack good, but actively seeks to destroy order wherever it exists as an end in itself.
Would require:
• Evil as its own stable telos
• Thriving on pure destruction
• Self-sustaining anti-order
• Independent creative malevolence
• Reversing ontological order itself
The Central Thesis
All empirically observable "evil" phenomena in natural systems are manifestations of Catastrophic Finitude, not true Ontological Rebellion. Every case of destruction or disorder reduces to something breaking or limiting the good, rather than an equal-and-opposite creative power devoted to evil.
